RICHMOND — Berea Community had claimed victory in the first two meetings of the season with cross-county and district rival Model Laboratory.

On Monday, the Lady Patriots got a little bit of revenge.

Model trailed early, but rallied for a 10-7 win at Eastern Kentucky University. The Lady Patriots (2-4) scored three times in the fourth and added runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

“It was a really good win,” Model coach Amy Kaylor said. “This is the third time we’ve played Berea and it’s nice to come out with a win and it give us a little momentum for district.”

Kasi Schneid was 2-for-2 with two walks and scored four runs for Model. Grace Weitkamp had a single and a double and scored twice. Hayley Hunt had a triple, walked twice and scored twice. Kylee Miller walked twice and scored a run and Lauren Stapp had a hit.

Berea (3-11) got a run in the top of the first when Jenny Ingram walked and scored.

Model scored four runs in the bottom of the inning as Schneid, Weitkamp, Hunt and Miller all scored.

The Lady Pirates jumped back in front with five runs in the second. Allie Maynard singled and scored, Miranda Montgomery walked and scored, Kayla Deborde singled and scored, Della Walters walked and scored and Hayley Penn singled and scored.

Berea took a 7-5 lead in the third when Nikea Banther singled and scored.

Model took control in the fourth.

Schneid singled and scored, Weitkamp doubled and scored, while Hunt walked and scored.

“We just continue to make mental errors and not help ourselves giving games away,” Berea coach Rick Ingram said. “Hopefully, we will learn from this. Our big goal is the district and that’s what we are working for.”

Banther had two hits for Berea and scored a run. Deborde singled, walked and scored a run.

Ingram went the distance in the circle for the Lady Pirates and allowed eight hits.

Weitkamp earn the complete-game victory for Model while also allowing eight hits.

Model and Berea are both set to return to action Thursday in a doubleheader against district rival Madison Southern at Berea.

Southern will take on Model at 5:30 p.m. and Berea at 7:30 p.m.
