OVC HOOPS: EKU can tie school record for wins today against Govs

RICHMOND — The Colonels (21-6, 10-3 OVC) will be looking to match an all-time single-season best 22 wins today when they take on Austin Peay (7-20, 3-10 OVC) at 7 p.m. in McBrayer Arena in the final home game of the season.

The game can be heard on WCYO 100.7 FM and on A broadcast of the game can be seen at no cost at

The single-season record for wins is 22 set by Travis Ford’s 2004-05 team. The Colonels set a new program record for regular-season wins with their 21st victory Saturday over Jacksonville State.

Saturday’s win also assured the Colonels of a top-four seed and a first-round bye in the OVC Tournament, which begins Wednesday, March. 6 in Nashville Tenn.

In the win over Jacksonville State, Tarius Johnson recorded his first double-double of the season with 15 points and season-bests 11 rebounds and five assists.

Corey Walden had 19 points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals against the Gamecocks, while Glenn Cosey had a game-high 21 points, which included four-of-seven three-point shooting.

Cosey was named the OVC Newcomer of the Week for the sixth time this season for his performances last week against the Gamecocks and Tennessee Tech in which he scored 17 points, had two assists and a steal.

Austin Peay comes into the game having won its last two games, both on the road, which broke an eight-game losing streak.

The Governors average 71 points per game and are allowing their opponents to score 75 points per game.

Austin Peay is shooting 46 percent from the field and 40 percent from behind the three-point line.

Junior college transfer Travis Betran leads APSU in scoring at 17 points per game, which is fourth in the OVC. Anthony Campbell is second in scoring for the Govs, averaging 15 points and five rebounds per game.

Austin Peay lead the all-time series with the Colonels 60-48, but EKU is 27-22 in games played in McBrayer Arena.
