OVC BASKETBALL: Long-time rival Murray State returns to McBrayer

RICHMOND — The Colonels (10-5, 1-1 OVC) return to the friendly confines of McBrayer Arena for the first time in three weeks today when they play host to long-time rival Murray State (7-7, 2-0 OVC) at 7 p.m.

The game is the annual Kids Night at EKU game. All children 12-and-under will receive free admission to the game.

This will be the first time in more than three years the Racers have played in Richmond. Ohio Valley Conference schedules were adjusted when the league went to divisional play, resulting in the Colonels playing three straight games at Murray.

The Colonels are coming off their first conference loss, 85-79, at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville on Saturday.

EKU went on an 11-2 run to cut an 11-point deficit to only two points with under two minutes to go, but the Cougars regrouped and held on for the win.

Glenn Cosey led all players with 23 points in the game. Corey Walden finished with 19 and Orlando Williams added 18.

It was the second consecutive game the Colonels defense gave up more than 80 points in a game. Despite that, EKU still leads the OVC in defense, giving up an average of 69.2 points

Cosey earned OVC Player of the Week honors on Monday for his performances against the Cougars and Eastern Illinois last week. At EIU, Cosey hit a league record-tying 10 three pointers on his way to a 34-point night. He averaged 28.5 points, five assists and shot 60 percent from the field in the two games combined.

Murray State is coming off consecutive victories over Southeast Missouri and Tennessee-Martin to open conference play.

The Racers are led by Clemson transfer T.J. Sapp who became eligible mid-year. In five games, Sapp is averaging 16 points per game. Freshman guard Cameron Payne is averaging 14.7 points and 3.5 rebounds per game, while Jarvis Williams, another transfer newcomer is averaging 13.7 points and 10.9 rebounds per game.
