Local Dancers take honors at Rising Star Talent Competition

RICHMOND — Several dancers from Laura’s School of Dance competed last week in the Rising Star National Talent Competition in Sevierville, Tenn.

The dancers turned in outstanding performances and received many awards and accolades.

The team of Allie Hazelwood, Morgan Swope, Kaitlyn Hornsby and Emma Rupard earned several high honors for their group tap performance. “Fur Elise” took first place in the junior tap group competition, was first place overall junior group (level 2) and was named the overall grand champion for all 12 and under performances.

Rupard took first place in the lyrical junior solo category and took fourth place overall in the junior solo (level 2).

Rupard was also the 12-and-under scholarship winner.

Hazelwood took first place in musical theater junior solo and finished in third place overall in the junior soloist competition (level 2).

Gabriella Henrich and Lauren Foley had overall top 10 finishes in the petite duet/trio (level 1).

Henrich also had an overall top 10 finish in the petite solo (level 1) competition.

Ryleigh Blythe earn a first-place finish in the junior soloist (level 1).

Ashley Davis took third place overall in the senior solo competition and teamed with Paige Swope to take second place overall in the senior duo/trio competition for the routine “Starstruck.”

Alyssa Kaminski took seventh place in the solo junior event (level 2).

The routine “Sassy,” featuring Hazelwood, Rupard and Isabella Murphy took ninth place, while “Rhythm Nation,” featuring Hazelwood and Rupard took fifth place (level 2) overall junior duet/trios.

Isabella Murphy finished in the top 10 in the 12-and-under photogenic category and studio owner Laura Hazelwood won the excellence in Musical Theater Award.
