Local swimmers shine for Bluegrass Marlins at MAKO Meet

Local swimmers turned in some outstanding performances for the Bluegrass Swim Team in Miami, Ohio.

John Babuka, Morgan Lakes and Trent Lakes all had individual first-place finishes at the MAKO Holiday Spirit Invitational. Lakes had three first-place finishes and was the high point winner in the girls 13-14 age group.

Lakes also set a new meet record in the 400 IM and achieved a winter junior bonus cut in the same event. She also achieved a summer sectional in the 200 backstroke.

The Bluegrass Marlins finished fourth in the event, which marked the end of the first half of the team’s season.

Lakes finished first in the 400 IM, 200 back and the 200 IM. She was second in the 500 free, finished fourth in both the 200 fly and was fifth in the 100 fly.

Trent Lakes (boys 11-12) took first place in the 100 IM, was second in the 200 IM, 100 fly and the 100 back and was fourth in the 500 free and 200 free.

Babuka (13-14 boys) took first place in the  200 fly, was second in the 200 breast, was third in the 100 breast and was fifth in the 400 IM and the 200 IM.

Chase Baldwin (15 and over boys) achieved NCSA Bonus Cuts in the 100 and 200 back. He finished third in the 200 back and seven the in the 100 back.

Baldwin also achieved new winter sectionals in the 500 free (14th) and the 100 fly (16th).

Mitchell Collins (boys 15 and over) achieved a summer sectional in the 100 breast and finished 15th in the event. He was also 14th in the 200 breast, giving him a new winter sectional time.

Tilly Baldwin (11-12 girls) had six Top 10 finishes. She finished fourth in the 500 free and the 50 breast, was sixth in the 200 IM, was seventh in the 200 free and the 100 breast and was ninth in the 100 IM.

Makenzie Burford’s (girls 13-14) best finish was in the 15th in the 100 fly. She was also 16th in the 200 fly.

Isabella Cooksey (girls 9-10) had her best performance in the 200 free (27th).

Other local swimmers who competed at the meet included: Lucas Schneider, Eliza Miller, Hadley Neal and Mason Neal.
