KIAC HOOPS: Lady Mountaineers snap skid

The Berea College women’s basketball team snapped a seven-game losing streak with a hard-fought win Friday at home over Kentucky Christian University.

Mikola Burks scored 17 points in just 22 minutes as the Lady Mountaineers picked up a 66-59 win. Johnesha Warren had 13 points and seven assists, while Shelby Romine added 11 points and eight rebounds for Berea (2-7).

The Lady Mountaineers had not won a game since a season-opening victory over the University of Northwestern Ohio on Nov. 2.

Berea had a one-point lead at halftime (31-30) and held on for the win despite shooting only 34 percent in the second half. The Lady Mountaineers were 10-of-26 from three-point range, with Burks connecting four times from long range. Romine also hit a trio of three pointers.

DeAnn Ryann had eight points for Berea, Anna Loveless and Meagan Walker had five points each, Makenzie Stoner had three points and Malena Steve and Kaitlynne Smith had two points each.

Berea is set to return to action Monday at the University of Cincinnati-Clermont.
