H.S. SOCCER: Central loses at home again

UNION CITY — Newport Central Catholic handed Madison Central its second-consecutive home loss Tuesday, picking up a 3-1 win in Richmond.

The Thoroughbreds (8-3-1) scored early when the Central defense mistakenly slowed in anticipation of an offsides call that did not materialize.

NCC’s second goal also occurred in the first half.

Central (6-5-1) was finally able to score when Peyton Netherton dished up a corner kick which was headed by Tate Renzinbrink to Luke Hall for the goal.

Central managed two shots — one each by Renzinbrink and Hunter Jackson. The Indians’ defense saw plenty of action with six blocks and seven steals by Addison McCoy, six blocks and two steals by Sammy Perkins, Grant Willoughby had three blocks and two steals, Luke Hall had a  block and a steal, Chad Barnes had a block, Caleb Crutcher had a steal, and Renzinbrink had four blocks.

Goalie Ben Durham had six saves.

The Madison Central JV lost their first game of the season earlier in the evening, falling 2-0 to Newport Central Catholic.

Central is set to return to action Saturday at Louisville Collegiate.
