Your community YMCA wants to help you make a new start

No joining fee for January

RICHMOND — To help you get started on a healthier new year, the Telford YMCA is waiving its joining fee for the month of January.

Come in and take a tour today and find out all the exciting things going on at the Y. If you think the YMCA is just a gym or a place to work out, you haven’t seen the Y lately.

Telford Y does have great fitness areas with free weights, weight machines and cardio equipment such as treadmills and stationary bikes. And it has Group Exercise classes from Boot Camp to Zumba, Spin to Yoga and lots more, all included with your membership dues.

Don’t forget the sauna or the steam room. Great for sweating out the toxins, or when you’re feeling a little stuffy or just want a place to finally get your feet warm!

But the YMCA has so much more!

There is a 25-yard, six-lane lap pool, a warm-water therapy pool (with a lift-chair for special needs) and a hot tub.

There are aquatics group classes, too, for all ability levels and also included with your membership; Aqua Arthritis, Aqua Fit and a new Aqua Boot Camp coming soon.

And if you’ve always wanted to learn to swim or have a child who needs to learn, the Y has a wide range of swim lessons available for every age and ability level.

Maybe your child would like to be part of the Telford Y Piranhas swim team for ages 5 to18.

The YMCA has a very active After School Program for those who have finished kindergarten to 12 years of age. The After School Program has well-furnished classrooms, a highly trained team of childcare professionals and a fun and educational outdoor playground.

In addition, the After School kids have access to many YMCA amenities during its operational hours. These include time in the pool and gym as well as current and upcoming opportunities with archery, guitar, keyboard and art lessons. Tutoring is available to those who need help with homework or reading skills.

And for when parents are at the Y, there is the Child Watch Room for children from infants to 11 years of age. Your community YMCA also hosts a youth basketball league each year for boys and girls ages 5 to 14.

If you are a business or corporation, you may be interested in helping your employees have a healthier and more active life. Call Bryan Duncan at the Y (623-9356) to hear how you can be a part of the Y’s Corporate Plus membership program.

Especially for the seniors, there’s Body Recall and Silver Sneakers. Both programs, each in their own unique way, are designed to increase muscle and bone strength, flexibility, balance and range of motion. Both programs are nationally recognized and lots of fun.

Two new classes have been added that will especially appeal to those who need less impact or a more gentle approach.

Zumba Gold and Gentle Yoga would be a good fit for those recovering from injury, seniors or beginners in either practice. Two new instructors have been added to the Telford staff for these classes, Stacy Wells, Zumba; and Judy Flavell, Yoga.

At the YMCA there are two walking tracks, two racquetball courts, walley ball (volley ball in a racquetball court) and open gym for a pickup game of basketball.

If you are an individual, church or civic group looking for a volunteer opportunity or community service hours, the Telford YMCA can always use your help. There’s even a community garden that grew some great vegetables last year, including 50 pounds of sweet potatoes that were donated to a local food bank.

Just a gym? Not even close!

Come join the excitement and be part of a nonprofit community that is actively making Madison County a better place.
