KIAC HOOPS: Berea College sweeps Point Park

RICHMOND — The Berea College men’s basketball team picked up its second-straight conference road win Saturday, beating Point Park, 89-80, in West Mifflin, Pa.

With the victory, the Mountaineers move to 11-6 on the season and 4-3 in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Daishon Robinson had a team-best 23 points, hit four three-pointers and had seven assists. Richard Parker had 18 points and also hit four three-pointers. Seth Beckham had 12 points, while Aaron Ponder and Anthony Myrks had nine points each.

Berea had a 49-40 lead at halftime and held on for the win despite shooting just 38 percent in the second half.

The Mountaineers were 15-of-32 from three-point range and was 12-of-18 from the free throw line.

Point Park (9-10, 4-5 KIAC) was 3-of-30 from three-point range and hit 21-of-27 free throws.

The Mountaineers lost to Point Park, 85-75, last week in Berea.

The Mountaineers are set to return to action Tuesday at home against Indiana University-Southeast.

Lady Mountaineers top Point Park

Berea College handed No. 21 Point Park (17-2, 5-2 KIAC) its first loss of the season last week at home.

On Saturday, the Lady Mountaineers did it again.

The Lady Mountaineers (8-6, 4-2 KIAC) trailed 47-42 at halftime, but stormed back for a 92-86 win in West Mifflin, Pa.

DeAnn Ryan hit seven three-pointers and finished with a game-high 27 points. Erika Parks hit four three-pointers and had 26 points. Johnesha Warren had 11 points, 10 rebounds and six assists. Malena Steve had 11 points also.

Kaitlynne Smith had nine points and 11 rebounds.

Berea shot 52 percent from the field for the game

The Lady Mountaineers will return to action today at Carlow University.
