H.S. HOOPS: Lady Patriots down Jackson County, Lady Pirates fall to West Jessamine

RICHMOND — The long-range shooting of Abby Vicars helped the Lady Patriots (5-10) pick up a win over Jackson County Saturday in Richmond.

The freshman hit six three-pointers and finished with a team-best 27 points as Model earned a 52-44 win.

Darrian Botts finished with 17 points and Hayley Hunt had eight points.

The Lady Patriots were seven-of-14 from three-point range, but hit just nine-of-23 free throws.

Model is set to return to action Tuesday against Sayre at the 11th Region All “A” in Frankfort.

Model Laboratory 71, Western Hills 66

The Patriots (13-4) had a double-digit lead after three quarters Saturday against Western Hills in Frankfort.

But, with three and a half minutes left, the Wolverines had slashed that lead to just three points.

“Our guys calmed down, handled the pressure and hit free throws down the stretch,” Model coach Wes Scarberry said.

The Patriots didn’t panic and held on for a hard-fought 71-66 win on the road. Ephraim Otieno had a team-best 24 points and hit six-of-seven free throw attempts. Keith Mason had 21 points and Jared Adams had 11 points and eight rebounds.

Western Hills had a 22-16 lead after the first quarter, but Model out-scored the Wolverines 25-6 in the second quarter.

The Patriots were up 59-48 after three quarters.

Caleb Kincaid had eight points and hit two big free throws late in the game. Zack Rice-Gordon had five points and Levi Agee had two points.

Model is set to return to action Thursday against either LCA or Frankfort at the 11th Region All “A”  in Frankfort.

 

West Jessamine 47, Lady Pirates 46

Berea Community lost a heartbreaker to visiting West Jessamine 47-46 Saturday.

The Lady Pirates led the Lady Colts 14-9 after one quarter, but West Jessamine rebounded to send it to the lockerroom at the half knotted up at 21-21.

The game remained tied after three quarters, but the Lady Colts were able to squeek out the one point win in the fourth quarter.

Jordan Sandefur led the Lady Pirates with 23 points, including 5-of-5 from behind the three point line.

Chase Fain was also in double figures with 11, Victoria Sexton had four, Cristina Morgan and Emily Keyser had three points apiece and Alex Horn had two points.

The Lady Pirates return to action on Thursday in the All “A” Classic in Frankfort against the winner of Tuesday’s Model and Sayre game.
