BASEBALL: Senior All-Stars pick up win, Junior All-Stars fall short

RICHMOND — The Richmond Senior League All-Stars picked up a big victory Tuesday in the state tournament in Oldham County.

Richmond defeated Beaver Creek Little League, 10-1, in loser’s bracket action.

The All-Stars are set to return to action at 8 p.m. today against North Laurel.

Junior All-Stars fall

The Richmond Little League Junior All-Stars fell into the loser’s bracket at the state tournament after a 6-3 loss to Paintsville Tuesday at North Oldham High School.

The Junior All-Stars were coming off an 11-8 win over Hazard Sunday, but were held to only four hits by Paintsville pitching.

Richmond  jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Jason Hurt doubled, then following an intentional walk to Austin Adams, stole third base, then scored on an overthrown ball.

The lead was short-lived however, as Paintsville came back to tie the game in the bottom of the first, then steadily built its lead.

Richmond got its other two runs in the fifth inning with the help of two Paintsville errors, which allowed Jackson Hurt, who reached base on a walk, and Brandon Huntzinger, who singled, to score.

Drew Gibbons and Evan Courtwright picked up the other two Richmond hits on the day.

Alec Rogers started and pitched the first two innings for Richmond. Huntzinger pitched 2 2/3 innings and Connor Taylor pitched the final inning.

The Junior All-Stars will be back in action at 5:30 p.m. today when they take on North Oldham.
