H.S. HOOPS: Sayre tops Lady Patriots in 11th Region All “A”

RICHMOND — The Lady Patriots couldn’t come up with a victory Wednesday in the opening round of the 11th Region All “A” Classic at Frankfort High School.

Model Laboratory trailed by 13 at halftime and went on to suffer a 60-37 loss to Sayre. Darrian Botts had 18 points and Hayley Hunt had 16 points and six rebounds as the Lady Patriots slipped to 5-11 on the season.

Sayre advances to the semifinals to take on Berea Community at 6 p.m. Friday in Frankfort.

Botts was just four-of-18 from the field, but hit 10-of-10 free throws. Hunt was five-of-eight from the field and six-of-six from the line.

Model was 16-of-17 from the line. Abby Vicars had three points.

Gabby Bowie had 22 points and eight rebounds for Sayre (9-5).

Berea Community and Sayre have already met once this season. The Lady Pirates beat Sayre 39-35 Jan. 8 in Lexington.

Boys 11th All “A”

The schedule for the boys 11th Region All “A” in Frankfort has been altered because Tuesday’s cancellations.

On Wednesday night, Lexington Christian Academy opened the tournament with a first-round victory over Frankfort. The Eagles advance to the semifinal to face Model Laboratory on Friday at 8 p.m.

The teams met in the championship game last season, with the Patriots earning the win.

The other semifinal is scheduled for today, when Berea Community takes on Sayre at 8 p.m.

The championship game is set for 8 p.m. Saturday.
