BOWLING: Jones Jr. almost hits 300 again

RICHMOND — Classic Doubles

David Robinson led this league last Thursday with a 248 game and 678 series, followed by Bobby Abrams at 221 and 563.

The best women’s scores were a 213 game and 558 series by Tina Hisle and a 188 game and 531 series by Beverly Shearer.

Splits were converted by Shearer (5-7) and Dean Acker (2-7 and 3-10 twice).

Arlington

Linda Drummond (182) and Bridget Settles (181) bowled the high games Tuesday. The best series scores were 483 by Janell Williams and 474 by Joyce Kearns.

Splits were converted by Brenda Underwood (5-7), Yolanda Fritz (2-10) and Kearns (5-10 and 3-10).

Early Birds

The high game (190) and series (510) were bowled by Beverly Shearer on Wednesday morning.

Joyce Kearns rolled the second-best game (186) and series (494).

Monday Fun League

This new non-sanctioned league opened a 12-week season this week with seven teams.

Gary Anderson bowled the high game (212) and series (544), followed by Sam Spangler at 205 and 536.

Christy Anderson and Sarah Burgess tied for the high women’s game at 157. The best women’s series were 420 by Anderson and 395 by Mary Mink.

Bad Bowlers No-tap

Nine pins down with the first ball in a frame counts as a strike in no-tap leagues.

Dean Acker (221) and Kyle Shultz (214) bowled the top men’s games as this league opened a new 12-week season on Tuesday. They also rolled the top men’s series — 568 by Shultz and 488 by Acker.

April Brumfield led the women with a 217 game and 578 series, followed by Joanna Dickey at 190 and 480. Dickey picked up a 4-7-10 split.

High school bowling

Southern vs. Wayne County

The Southern girls blanked Wayne County 7-0, but the young Southern boy’s team lost by the same score on Jan. 9 at Galaxy.

Rebecca Sowder (192), Heather Smith (180 and 179) and Megan Faught (177) bowled the best games for the Lady Eagles.

The best games by the Southern boys were 133 each by Kymonte Bruce and John Richmond and 124 by Kyle Maggard.
