Register staff report

MADISON COUNTY — Madison Central’s Paul Couch lost his opening match Friday at the KHSAA State Wrestling Championships in Lexington.

He didn’t let that setback slow him down.

The senior bounced back to win six-straight matches and on Saturday claimed third place in the heavyweight division. Couch defeated Cody Miskell of Grant County 3-2 in the consolation final match.

Central’s Tucker Fair wrapped up an amazing senior season with a fourth-place finish in the 220-pound weight class Saturday in Lexington. The senior lost to eventual state champion Austin Myers in the third round, then won three matches to reach the consolation bracket final. In his final match, Fair lost to Anthony Jennings of Fairdale, 9-1.

Fair finished his senior season with a record of 27-2.

Couch and Fair are the first Central wrestlers ever to finish in the top four at the state championships.

Couch picked up two wins in the consolation bracket on Friday. On Saturday, the senior defeated Chris Martin by pin, then beat Matthew Daugherty of Central Hardin (7-4 decision) and then defeated Brad Weber of Ryle by pin. In the consolation semifinals, Couch beat Alec Mielke, 4-0.

After being knocked into the consolation bracket, Fair picked up wins over Wesley Kinslow (11-3), Zack Cooper of Henry Clay (13-4) and Jason Maine of Ryle (5-3).
