H.S. SWIMMING: Model Laboratory tops Henry Clay, Tates Creek on Senior Night

RICHMOND — The Model swim teams performed well in a final tune-up for regional competition, defeating Tates Creek and Henry Clay in a duel meet Wednesday at the EKU’s Alumni Coliseum.

Model’s A Team claimed the top spot in the combined team competition with a total of 197 points, while the Model B Team was third with a total of 189 points.

Tates Creek’s A Team finished second with a total of 133 points and their B Team claimed fifth with a total of 96 points. Henry Clay’s A Team was third with a total of 111 points, while their B Team finished sixth with a total of 95 points.

In the boys competition, Model’s A and B teams claimed the top two spots with 115 and 113 points respectively.

Tates Creek’s A Team finished third with 76 points, while its B Team was fifth with 38 points.

Henry Clay’s A Team was fourth with 40 points and its B Team was sixth with 31 points.

On the girls side, Model’s A Team claimed the top spot with 84 points and the B Team was second with 74 points. Henry Clay’s A Team was third with 71 points, while the B Team was fourth with 64 points.

Tates Creek claimed the fifth and sixth spots with 58 and 57 points.

“Everybody is swimming a lot faster now. I’m very happy, everybody is swimming very well and very fast,” Model coach Reinhardt Strijdom said. “I’m excited for the fact that we are probably going to take a couple of people to state this year. Last year we didn’t have anybody go. I’m excited to see what happens.”

Individual results for the girls were:

Lauren Shepherd — 1st in the 100 yard fly and 1st in the 100 yard back.

Christina Schwartz — 1st in the 500 free and 3rd in the 200 free.

Kate Walters — 2nd in the 100 yard breast and 4th in the 100 yard fly.

Maddy Nasrallah — 3rd in the 100 yard free and 3rd in the 50 yard free.

Lillie Deprez —  3rd in the 100 yard back and 3rd in the 200 IM.

Miriam Cahill —  3rd in the 100 yard breast and 6th in the 100 yard free.

Lexi Nasrallah — 5th in the 100 yard free and 5th in the 50 yard free.

Jaqueline Brochu — 5th in the 200 IM and 5th in the 100 yard breast.

Individual results for the boys were:

James Schwartz — 1st in the 200 yard free and 1st in the 100 yard fly.

Jonas Welsing — 1st in the 100 yard free and 1st in the 100 yard breast.

Sam Shepherd — 1st in the 100 yard back and 2nd in the 200 IM.

Parker Jackson — 1st in the 200 IM and 2nd in the 100 yard breast.

Jack Miller — 1st in the 50 yard free and 2nd in the 200 yard free.

Cameron Sidor — 2nd in the 100 yard free and 2nd in the 500 yard free.

Kody Stroschein — 2nd in the 100 yard back and 5th in the 100 yard breast.

Devin Dirks — 3rd in the 100 yard fly and 3rd in the 50 yard free.

Logan Jackson — 3rd in the 500 yard free and 3rd in the 100 back.

In the girls relay competition, Model’s A team was 2nd in the 200 yard medley, 2nd in the 200 yard freestyle and 2nd in the 400 yard freestyle.

In the boys relay competition, Model’s A team finished 1st in the 200 yard medley, 1st in the 200 yard freestyle and 1st in the 400 yard freestyle. The Model B Team finished 2nd in the 200 yard freestyle.

Wednesday was senior night for Model and Strijdom said it was a nice way for his seniors to go out in their last home meet of their careers.

“It was senior night tonight and it was very emotional and that is a good sign that everybody cares and they are a very tight group,” he said. “The kids are all having fun and that’s the main thing. Everybody is happy and everybody cares. What more could you want?”
