OVC HOOPS: Lady Colonels look to get back on track at home

RICHMOND — The Lady Colonels will look to bounce back from their first home loss of the season when they take on Eastern Illinois today at McBrayer Arena.

Game time is set for 7 p.m.

EKU had won six-straight games at home before falling in overtime to OVC rival SIU-Edwardsville, 73-69, on Saturday. The Lady Colonels had 29 turnovers and allowed their second-highest point total of the season.

With the loss, EKU slipped to 7-6 on the season and 1-1 in the OVC.

Senior Jade Barber led four Lady Colonels in double figures with 18 points, while also pulling down nine rebounds. Brittany Coles added 16 points and Raechele Gray had 13 points, four rebounds, four steals and five assists and Marie Carpenter had 10 points, three rebounds and three steals.

The Cougars opened the overtime on a 7-1 run and the Lady Colonels never recovered.

EKU heads into today’s games tied with Tennessee State for third place in the OVC East Division.

Eastern Illinois enters the game on top of the OVC West Division standings — 8-6, 2-0 OVC. The Lady Panthers picked up an impressive 78-58 win Saturday on the road against Morehead State. EIU hit 16 three pointers and shot 50 percent from the field in the victory.

Katlyn Payne was five-of-eight from three-point range and finished with 17 points for the Lady Panthers. Mariah King had 15 points and Kelsey Wyss was three-of-four from long range and finished with 11 points.

EIU out-rebounded Morehead State, 40-23.

The Lady Panthers have dominated the series with EKU in recent years, winning 10 straight games. The Lady Colonels last victory was in 2007.

EIU leads the all-time series between the schools, 16-14.
