H.S. BASEBALL/SOFTBALL: Rockets top Berea

BEREA — Berea Community and Rockcastle County were tied after four innings Friday in Berea.

But, a couple of mistakes allowed the Rockets to take control and pick up a road win.

Rockcastle County scored seven times in the fifth inning and five more times in the sixth inning on the way to a 13-1 win.

Berea had two costly mistakes in the fifth inning that turned a close game into a blowout.

The Pirates (4-6) got their only run in the first inning. Sean Long singled and Gabe Long walked. Neil Claytor followed with an RBI double.

Rockcastle County scored a run in the top of the first inning.

In the third, Gabe Long and Claytor both walked, but the Pirates couldn’t push across a run. Jason Strong singled in the fourth, then in the sixth inning, Jared Kilgore and Strong both singled.

Zach McPeek started and went four innings. Sean Long and McPeek each pitched an inning.

Berea is set to return to action Tuesday at Garrard County.

Lady Patriots 17, Lynn Camp 3

The Model Laboratory softball team rolled to a 17-3 win over Lynn Camp Friday on the road.

Model is now 2-2 on the    season.

The Lady Patriots are set to return to action Thursday at Garrard County.
