H.S. TENNIS: Gadd brothers roll into finals

BEREA — The top doubles team in the 12th Region rolled into the championship match on Saturday at Berea College.

Berea Community’s Steven Gadd and David Gadd picked up a pair of 6-0, 6-0 wins in the quarterfinals and semifinals.

They will take on Tanner Sparks and Hunter Hailey of West Jessamine in the championship match at 4 p.m. Monday.

The brothers received a bye in the first round and in three matches so far in the tournament they have not lost a game.

On Saturday morning, Gadd and Gadd topped West Jessamine’s Nick Kulaga and Sumner Blue in the quarterfinals. Later in the day, they defeated Boyle County’s Jacob Crowell and J.T. Henderson in the semifinals.

Berea’s top doubles team is the No. 1 seed in the tournament and has lost just one match this season.

Steven Gadd won the 12th Region singles title last season.

West Jessamine wrapped up the boys team title on Saturday.

The only other victories for Madison County players in the 12th Region Tournament came from Berea Community’s Candace Elam and Emily Keyser on Friday in the first round.

 Elam defeated Kali Lay of Rockcastle County, 6-0, 6-0, and Emily Keyser defeated Madison Southern’s Nicole Maynard, 6-3, 6-4.

In the second round, Elam lost to No. 1 seed Haley Owens of Casey County, 6-1, 6-2. Keyser fell to West Jessamine’s Katie Mitchell, 6-0 6-0.
