H.S. BASEBALL: Southern falls short

LEXINGTON — The Eagles got off to a good start Monday on the road against Sayre.

Madison Southern had a hit and drew two walks in the first inning, taking 1-0 lead.

The Spartans, however, tied the game moments later then took control and rolled to a 11-1 five-inning victory at the Sayre Sports Complex.

With the loss, Southern slips to 2-17 on the season.

The Eagles had only four hits and committed three errors. Sayre (7-4) scored six runs in the fourth and four more runs in the fifth inning.

Donnie Wyatt started for Southern and went 3 1/3 innings. Easton Shouse pitched the final two innings.

In the first inning, Andrew Evans walked and Devin Vanover singled. Kenden Angel walked and Evans scored on a wild pitch.

Lucas Reynolds was 2-for-3 for Southern, including a double. Chris Anderson also had a double.

Southern is set to return to action Thursday at home against Whitley County.
