OPINION: It’s time for me to pay up

RICHMOND — A couple of months back I offered up a little challenge to the local high school football teams in Madison County.

It was pretty simple.

Win a playoff game this year and you get the opportunity to shave my head.

It had been four years since any Madison County team had won a playoff game and I was hoping to maybe provide a little extra      motivation.

I don’t know if my offer made any difference at all, but last weekend both Madison Central and Madison Southern picked up first-round playoff wins at home. The Indians defeated DuPont Manual, 40-21, for their first postseason win since 2008. The Eagles topped Perry County Central, 38-37, to win their first playoff game since 2005.

So, I guess it’s time for me to pay up.

I’m a man of my word and I don’t plan on bailing on my offer.

Here’s the plan.

At 8 p.m. today at the Lee’s Famous Recipe at 1007 Center Drive in Richmond, representatives of both the Central and Southern football team will break out clippers and shave my head. Each team will get one half of my noggin, as promised.

So, if you are not doing anything tonight come on by and watch me get humiliated!

A photographer for the Richmond Register will be on hand to document the event and a picture of the ceremony will appear in the Friday edition of the paper.

Thanks to Brian Parks and the folks at Lee’s Famous Recipe for setting up this event. I hope to see lots of you there!
