CROSS COUNTRY: Central sweeps regional titles

LONDON — The Madison Central boys and girls cross country teams took first place Saturday at the Class AAA, Region 7 Meet at North Laurel High School.

The Indians cruised to the title, finishing with 36 points. North Laurel (64) was second and Pulaski County (66) finished third.

Mason Crump, a junior, finished second, just six seconds behind Mason Blevins of Pulaski County.

The Lady Indians finished with 31 points and edged out Pulaski County for the title by three points. Montgomery County (91) finished third.

Both teams qualify for the state meet, which is scheduled for Saturday at the Kentucky Horse Park.

Central’s Julia Manning finished third with a time of 21:25 at the regional. Anna Marshall was fifth (21:43), Ivanna Sabino finished eighth (21:56), Anna Knox finished 10th (22:08), Sarah Franklin finished 13th (22:19), Gabriella Sabino was 14th (22:37) and Melanie Manning finished 18th (23:37).

In the boys race, Brennan Fields finished fourth (17:17), Griffin Sexton was seventh (17:35), Kyle Kelsey was 11th (17:50),  Max Snyder was 16th (18:03), Parker Stanley was 18th (18:21) and Grant Brockman was 20th (18:75).

Runners finishing in the Top 10 at the region meet earned First-Team All-Region honors. Runners who finish 11th through 20th earned Second-Team All-Region honors.
