H.S. TENNIS: Model rolls past Bryan Station

RICHMOND — The Model Laboratory boys and girls tennis teams opened the season Tuesday against Bryan Station in Richmond.

The Patriots rolled to a 5-0 victory, while the Lady Patriots suffered a 5-0 loss.

“The teams played well despite the limited practice schedule due to inconsistent weather,” Model coach Ric Hernandez said.  

In the boys match, Gus Benson defeated Anton Verlander, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 1 singles. Cole Wilson beat Bailey Shire, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 2 singles and Levi Agee defeated Ian Walton, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 3 singles.

In the doubles matches, Jack Frisbie and James Logue beat Verlander and Shire, 6-0, 6-1, while Blake Benson and Nolan Kelley defeated Zack King and Jeremy Walker, 6-1, 6-2.

In the girls match, Emily Hamilton fell to Meredith Rawlings, 6-2, 6-0, Miriam Cahill lost to Mary Ball in three sets and Amber Abner fell to Hannah McGoodwin, 6-1, 6-1.

In the doubles matches, Abner and Rachel Droege fell to Leighann Ball and Rebecca Edwing, 6-3, 6-1, and Charity Mack and Nia Alhande lost to Katie Harris and Maya Brown, 6-0, 6-0.

Both teams are set to return to action today against Scott County at Arlington Country Club.
