Berea Lady Pirates 47, Jackson County 22

After a week off, the Lady Pirates were ready to get back on the court.

Berea Community jumped out to a 12-2 lead at the end of the first quarter and went on to pick up a 47-22 win Tuesday in McKee. Jordan Sandefur finished with 21 points and seven steals for Berea (5-3).

“We had two or three really good practicing leading into this game,” Berea coach Jerry Bingham said. “We had a really good first half.”

Berea had a 22-5 lead at halftme and was never seriously challenged in the second half.

Alex Horn had nine points, Hannah Haycraft had nine rebounds, one point and five blocks, Chase Fain had six points, Victoria Sexton had five points, Ashley Sizemore had three points and Emily Keyser had two points.

Berea is not set to return to action until Dec. 27 at the Whitefield Academy Christmas Classic.



Garrard County 63,  Madison Southern Lady Eagles 45

 A rough shooting first half put the Lady Eagles in a big early deficit Tuesday in Lancaster.

Madison Southern trailed by 18 points and halftime and went on to suffer a 63-45 loss to Garrard County on the road. Briana Lanham had another double-double, 19 points and 10 rebounds, Kelley Freeman had 12 points and Samantha Parms finished with seven points and eight rebounds for the Lady Eagles (5-6).

Southern shot just 19 percent in the first half (six-of-32), including three-of-17 from three-point range.

The Lady Eagles are set to return to action today at home against  Woodford County.
