H.S. HOOPS: Berea rolls past Burgin

RICHMOND — Berea Community got off to a fast start Tuesday at home against Burgin and rolled to an easy win.

The Lady Pirates (9-6) led 20-3 after the first quarter and went on to post a 55-23 victory. Chase Fain had a game-high 16 points, including four three-pointers, and Jordan Sandefur added 15 points as Berea won its fifth-straight game.

The Lady Pirates were up 35-9 at halftime and 45-16 after the third quarter.

Conner Coyle had seven points, Victoria Sexton and Alex Horn had six points each, Miranda Montgomery and Della Walters had two points each and Allie Maynard added a point.

Berea is set to return to action Friday at Southern.

Pirates 78, Burgin 57

Berea Community put together a strong first-half performance Tuesday on the road at Burgin.

The Pirates (5-11) had a double-digit lead in the first quarter and took a 21-point advantage into halftime. They used that momentum to roll to a 78-57 victory.

Dustin Kates led the way with a double-double — 19 points and 10 rebounds. Shyiem Alexander had 16 points, Austin Warford had 13 points and Trey Terrill had 10 points and five assists.

Berea shot 59 percent from the field and was 17-of-22 from the free throw.

Jarel Tevis had six points, Sam Shearer had five points, Cameron Coyle and Derrick Castle had four points each and Caleb Goss added a point.

Berea is set to return to action Friday at Madison Southern.
