H.S. TENNIS: Model moves into Final Four

RICHMOND — For the second time in the past four years, the Model Laboratory boy’s tennis team has advanced to the semifinals of the KHSAA State Team Tournament.

The Patriots moved into the Final Four with a pair of wins in the sectional Sunday at Eastern Kentucky University. They defeated 12th Region champion West Jessamine, then picked up a thrilling 3-2 win over 9th Region champion Covington Catholic.

Model will take on McCracken County Wednesday in Lexington. The winner will take on either St. Xavier or Paul Blazer on Thursday in the championship.

“We’ve been in the Final Four and came up a little short,” Model coach Ric Hernandez said. “We are driven to achieve much more this time around and we will leave everything on the court.”
