H.S. BASKETBALL: Berea set to play host to tourneys

RICHMOND — Berea Community is set to play host to a pair high school basketball tournaments this weekend.

A boys and girls tournament, both featuring 16 teams, will be played at various locations across Berea through Sunday.

The 2013 Boys Berea Holiday Classic is set to get underway today. All games in this event will be played at the two gyms at Berea Community High School and all four local high schools are scheduled to participate in tournament.

The 2013 Girls Berea Holiday Classic will begin on Friday and will feature games at Berea College’s Seabury Center, Madison Southern, Ferristown Middle School and both gyms at Berea Community.

Madison Southern, Madison Central and Model Laboratory are all scheduled to be part of the tournament.

Boys schedule

The boys tournament is scheduled to start tonight at Berea Community.

Berea Community will take on Powell County at 8 p.m. at the school’s new gym, while Madison Central will take on Bourbon County at 8 p.m. in the Singleton Gym.

On Friday, Madison Southern will take on Harlan County at 9:30 p.m. in the new gym, while Model will take on Jackson County at 6:30 p.m. in the new gym.

The championship game is set for 8 p.m. Sunday at Berea Community.

Girls schedule

The girls tournament will get under way on Friday.

Madison Central will take on Somerset at 6:30 p.m. at the old gym at the Seabury Center. Madison Southern will face Rowan County at 8 p.m. at Madison Southern and Model is set to take on Lewis County at 9:30 p.m. at Southern.

Win or lose, each team will play twice on Saturday.

The championship game is set for 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Berea Community.
