H.S. FOOTBALL: Berea set for district battle with Campbellsville

RICHMOND — The Berea Community Pirates (2-6) will be looking for their third win of the season when they play host to Campbellsville (1-7) tonight at home.

The Pirates gave up 56 points in a road loss last week to Williamsburg and will face an Eagles team that is coming off its first win of the season last week, 40-0 over Lynn Camp.

The Eagles are led by senior quarterback Zach Durham, but depend heavily on underclassmen.

Durham’s favorite receivers are both young, Kendon Young, a sophomore and Blake Underwood, a freshman.

The backfield is more veteran with talented runners Hayden Webb and Grant Adams, both juniors as well as freshman Stone Williams.

The game will feature a pair of teams with explosive special teams. Berea’s special teams unit has come up with big punt and kickoff returns all season and Campbellsville had two special teams scores in its win over Lynn Camp.

Berea has scored 118 points on the season, while Campbellsville has scored 103 points on the year, 40 of which came last week.

The Pirates defense has allowed 16 more points on the season than has Campbellsville.

With only one more game left in the regular season, the Pirates need a win to build some momentum heading into the playoffs in a couple of weeks and a win over the Eagles would be a big boost heading into a tough road matchup with Paris in the final regular season game next week.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
