H.S. SOCCER: Lady Eagles roll on Senior Night

BEREA — The Madison Southern Lady Eagles (6-9-2) posted a 2-0 shutout of Danville (4-8-2) Thursday on Senior Night in Berea.

The Lady Eagles dominated possession of the ball the entire game and though not taking as many shots as coach Katy Cress might have liked, made the most of those they did.

After a scoreless first 35 minutes, Mikki Clark finally got Southern on the board, lofting a shot from about 25 yards out, just over the outstretched fingers of the Danville goal keeper and into the back of the net to give Southern a 1-0 lead at the half.

In the second half, the Lady Eagles once again dominated possession and kept the pressure on the Danville defense, getting multiple shots on goal.

Karrigan Moberly found the back of the net with 24:31 left in the game.

Cress said she was pleased with the way her team controlled the tempo of the game.

“I thought we were possessing the ball very well in the first half, we just weren’t taking all the shots that we needed to. But I thought we did a little better job of taking shots in the second half and still possessing the ball,” Cress said. “We were getting some good looks and some really good shots, but their keeper had some really good saves tonight.”

The Lady Eagles finish up regular-season play next Wednesday on the road at Lafayette at 7 p.m.
