H.S. SOCCER: Model tops Berea, 10-0

BEREA — Model Laboratory (12-1) finished off a sweep of its district opponents Saturday with a 10-0 win over Berea Community (3-7).

The Patriots have scored 41 goals in their last four contests and have 79 on the year, while giving up only 14 goals all season.

Andrew Wylie continued his assault on the nets, firing home six goals, two in the first 40 minutes, then adding four more goals in the final 16 minutes of the game.

Andrew Wylie has scored 20 goals during the Patriots’ four game winning streak following their only loss of the season to Kentucky Country Day on Sept. 14.

Model wasted no time in jumping on top of the young Pirates when Rishav Aikat nailed a goal inside the first two minutes of the game.

Despite a multitude of stops by Berea goal keeper Trey Terrill, the Patriots barrage of shots on goal in the first half finally began to find their mark.

Taylor Gentry made it 2-0 at the 31:14 mark, followed by back-to-back goals by Andrew Wylie in a 1:40 span to put the Patriots on top 4-0 with 28:21 left.

Model’s second leading scorer, Noah Valencia got in on the act with two goals before the half to make it 6-0.

Terrill and the Pirates defense held the Patriots in check for the first 16 minutes of the second half, before Andrew Wylie got on track, firing home his four goals, most from point-blank range after nice passes by teammates (11 total assists) to end the game with seven minutes left on the clock.

The Pirates return to action Tuesday when they host Burgin at 6 p.m.

Model closes out the season with three road games, beginning with South Laurel on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
