H.S. SOCCER: Lady Indians win sixth straight 4-0 over Harrison County

RICHMOND — The Madison Central Lady Indians (12-1-1) picked up their seventh shutout of the season Wednesday, blanking Harrison County 4-0.

The Central defense was once again dominant against the Fillies, allowing Harrison County only six shots on goal all night.

The Lady Indians rank in the Top 10 in the state defensively, having given up only 12 goals on the season.

Maryssa Stewart gave Central all the offense if needed on the night with a goal at the 32:29 mark of the first half on a nice cross from LeeAnne Ogle.

Less than eight minutes later, Abby Helwig found the back of the net from the right side on an assist from Maryssa Stewart to give the Lady Indians a 2-0 lead that they held at the half.

Anna Parsley made it 3-0 10 minutes into the second half, then Bailey Harden rounded out the scoring with a goal from 35 yards out straight away.

Central has now won six games in a row since itsonly loss of the season to West Jessamine and seems to be peaking at just the right time.

With only three games remaining before the district tournament, Central coach Chris Dunham said he likes the position his team is in.

“The defense is looking great. The offense is looking good and the last few games they have been doing a great job of possessing the ball,” Dunham said. “They are understanding, keeping it simple and not trying to do too much with the ball, keeping it simple and it’s starting to click now. They’re working together and looking sharp. This is the right time to get it done.”

Dunham said he’s not worried about his team losing its edge before the postseason begins because it has a couple of stiff road tests coming against region rivals — Sept. 30 at Lexington Catholic and Oct. 2 at Paul Laurence Dunbar.

The Lady Indians finish the season with a home tilt against Lincoln County on Oct. 7 at 7:30 p.m.
