H.S. CROSS COUNTRY: Central sweeps titles at Boyle County

RICHMOND — The Madison Central girls and boys cross country teams put together very impressive performances Thursday at the Boyle County Invitational.

The Indians (24 points) had five runners place in the top six and easily beat out North Laurel (51 points) to the team title. Brennan Fields took the individual championship, posting a team of 16:57.6.

The Lady Indians (30 points) had four of the top seven finishers and beat out Boyle County (42) for the top spot.

“We are getting better,” Central coach Robert LaDeur said. “As a team, we are getting faster, which is what I am most concerned about. We are increasing our team times.”

In the boys race, Fields and Mason Crump went out in front early and battled by themselves for the title. Fields, a sophomore beat out Crump by more than 18 seconds.

It’s the second-straight meet that Fields has posted a sub 17-minute time.

“He is the workhorse of our team,” LaDeur said of Fields. “He just kills it every day.”

Griffin Sexton (17:27.8) took third, Seth Richardson (17:55.0) was fourth and Grant Brockman (17:55.2) was sixth.

Central’s Wes Newman was 20th, Parker Stanley was 24th and Chris Morrow was 40th.

Melanie Manning led the Lady Indians with a time of 21:47.4 and finished in fourth place. Julia Manning was fifth (21:48.5), Ivanna Sabino was seventh, Alexa Snyder was ninth, Anna Knox was 12th and Anna Marshall was 14th.
