BOWLING: Simpson hits 700 twice at Galaxy

RICHMOND — There were five 700 series bowled at Galaxy this week. Brandon Simpson rolled two 700 series, while Ron Gugel, John Hickam and Glenn Masters each reached that level once.

Regina Barton rolled the first women’s 600 series of the season at Galaxy.

Senior tournament deadlines

Entries for the Kentucky senior men’s state tournament close Monday, while the deadline for registering for the senior women’s state tourney is Sept. 27.

The men’s tourney will be contested at Galaxy on Sept. 28 and 29 and the women’s tourney on Oct. 5 and 6, also at Galaxy.

Each tournament will involve competition in six age groups ranging from 50-54 to 75 and older. The winners in each age group will be eligible for the national seniors tournament in Reno, Nev., in July 2014.

League highlights

Wednesday Wonders

Gary Holtzclaw (233) and Mark Rogers (227) bowled the high games as this league opened its season on Sept. 11 with six teams. The best series scores were 633 by Rogers and 628 by Bill Bowles.

Pat Holtzclaw (166), Kymmi Bowles (165), Julia Landreth (164) and JoAnn Smith (164) rolled the top games for the league’s ladies. The best women’s series were 461 by Holtzclaw and 432 by  Bowles.

Classic Doubles

The high games for the league’s members last Thursday were 241 by John Hickam and 216 by Gary Cromer. Hickam (594) and Carl Daniels (543) rolled the best series scores.

Beverly Shearer led the league’s ladies with a 199 game and 559 series, followed by Denise Lakner at 194 and 544.

Tina Hisle converted a 3-10 split.

Substitute Brandon Simpson topped all the league’s members with a 258 game and 716 series.

TGIF

Ron Gugel (709) and John Hickam (703) rolled the high series scores on Friday and they also bowled the high games — 279 by Hickam and 268 by Gugel.

A 600 series was rolled by Steve Woltering (644), Lewis Jones Jr. (639), Glenn Masters (634) and Ronald Richmond (606).

The top women’s games were 228 by Jan Farnstrom and 217 by Narita Rose, while the best women’s series were 597 by Rose and 554 by Farnstrom.

Three other women — Sandy Reynolds (549), Margaret Tilsley (522) and Beverly Shearer (504) — also rolled a 500 series.

This league has expanded to include 16 teams.
