RICHMOND — The Madison Southern softball team rebounded from a disappointing loss to Pulaski County Friday by sweeping two games Saturday.

Southern pounded Casey County 11-3 in four innings and downed Wayne County 10-2 in the Where’s the Beach Classic at Rockcastle County High School.

Emily Osborne picked up the win in the circle for the Lady Eagles in the first game, going four innings, striking out three batters.

Southern jumped out early, scoring three runs in the first inning, then put the game away with nine runs in the third inning.

Offensively, Bethany Mays was 3-for-4, Jaycee Combs was 2-for-4 and Heather Sparks had a triple.

In the second game, sophomore pitcher Tara Bord got the complete-game, five-inning victory.

Amber Sparks led the way at the plate, going 3-for-4, while Alex Nash and Kelly Freeman were 2-for-3. Freeman’s two hits were both triples. Paige KIng was 2-for-4 in the game.

Southern coach Brian Foley said he got after his team Friday after they committed six errors and allowed six unearned runs in the loss to Pulaski, but he was happy with the way they responded.

“We lost one Friday night that we should not have lost,” he said. “I knew they were either going to lay down and lay an egg today or they were going to come back today and do something. They came out today and played much better.”

Southern is back in action on Monday when they take on Danville at home at 6 p.m.

Southern splits pair in the Madison Southern Triangle

Southern will take on Rockcastle County at 5 p.m. Tuesday in Berea.
