H.S. BASEBALL: Indians finish trip with win; Pirates roll again

RICHMOND — The Indians wrapped up a successful spring break trip to Florida with a big victory Friday over Owensboro.

Madison Central scored 11 times in the first inning on the way to a 12-8 win at the Florida Beach Bash in Fort Walton Beach, Fla.

Joseph Holbrook and Jimmy Wright each had three RBI, while Ben Morin had a double and two RBI.

The Indians (8-2) posted a 4-1 record at the week-long tournament.

Central took charge right away against Owensboro. The Indians had just four hits in the opening inning, but still took a commanding lead.

Jake Caldwell, Jimmy Wright and Ben Fisher all walked to load the bases. Holbrook walked to score the game’s first run, then Josh Wright was hit by a pitch to score another run. Jeremy Lakes added an RBI single, then Chris Wells was hit by a pitch, scoring another run (4-0).

Jacob Frazier walked with the bases loaded, then Jimmy Wright ripped a two-run single, Morin followed with a two-run double and Holbrook rounded out the scoring with a two-run single.

In the fourth inning, Central added another run. Frazier and Caldwell singled, then Josh Wright added a sac fly.

Owensboro scored seven times in the fourth inning and once in the sixth.

Kyle Kelsey started and went two innings, allowing two hits while striking out three. He earned the win.

Lakes went the final two innings, allowing two hits while striking out three.

Alex Georgel and Nick Kavanaugh each pitched an inning, while Trey Sexton, Jonah Kelsey and Fisher also pitched.

Seth Richardson was two-for-two and scored, Fisher walked three times, Josh Wright was 2-for-2 and Frazier was 2-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and two runs scored.

The Indians finished with 13 hits.

Central is set to return to action Tuesday at Tates Creek.
