H.S. BASEBALL: Central slips past Jeffersontown, 3-2, in Florida

RICHMOND — Madison Central pushed across the go-ahead run in the fifth inning and held on for a 3-2 win over Jeffersontown Tuesday at the Florida Beach Bash in Fort Walton Beach, Fla.

Joseph Holbrook was 2-for-2 with an RBI and Jeremy Lakes was 2-for-3.

With the win, the Indians improve to 6-2 on the season and 2-1 during their spring break trip.

Nick Kavanaugh started for Central and went 3 2/3 innings, allowing two run, four hits and one walk, while striking out four.

Austin Templeton pitched 1 1/3 innings, allowing two hits and Jonah Kelsey pitched the final two innings, giving up just two hits while striking out two.

Central got a run in the second and third innings.

In the second, Ben Morin singled and scored on a single by Holbrook.

In the third, back-to-back doubles by Jimmy Wright and Ben Fisher gave the Indians a 2-0 lead.

Jeffersontown tied the game in the fourth.

Central jumped back in the front an inning later. Fisher was hit by a pitch to lead-off the fifth. Morin walked and Kelsey followed with an RBI single.

Holbrook added a single to load the bases with one out, but Central wasn’t able to score again.

The Indians had just eight hits.

Central is set to return to action at 7 p.m. today against Adair County in Florida.
