SWIMMING: Local swimmers shine at 13-and-over state championships

RICHMOND — Local swimmers posted some good times at the 13-and-over Kentucky State Swimming Championships last weekend at Ralph Write Natatorium in Louisville.

Swimming for the Bluegrass Marlins, Morgan Lakes was the 2nd high point winner in the event. She was crowned State Champion, finishing first in both the 1,000 yard free and the 400 yard IM. Her cut time of 10:40. 73 in the 1,000 free, which she won by 11 seconds, was a new Summer Sectional record. Lakes scored in all nine events she entered. She was 4th in both the 200 yard fly and the 200 yard back, 6th in the 100 yard fly, 7th in the 200 yard breast and 8th in the 100 yard back.

Chase Baldwin scored in eight events including; 7th in the 200 IM, 11th in both the 200 yard back and the 100 yard breast, 12th in the 100 yard back and the 200 yard free, 13th in the 200 yard breast and 15th in the 100 yard fly.

John Babuka finished 14th shaved 30 seconds off his time in the 1,000 yard free, 16th in the 400 IM and 18th in the 100 yard breast, where he secured his first Sectional Cut.

Makenzie Burford finished 9th to win the consolation heat by nearly two seconds in a time of 2:18.63 and 14th in the 100 yard back.

Swimming for Wildcat Aquatics, Abby Thompson finished 15th in the 100 yard back and 23rd in the 200 IM. Madeline Meeker finished 31st in the 200 IM, 43rd in the 50 yard free and 47th in the 100 yard free.

Parker Jackson, swimming for Colonel Aquatics, finished 12th in both the 100 yard back and the 100 yard free and 16th in the 50 yard free.
