The Lady Colonels (5-3) will be looking for their third straight victory and first on the road, tonight when they take on the Ohio Bobcats (1-5) in Athens Ohio at 7 p.m.

EKU had wins over Presbyterian and Jackson State to capture the Comfort Suites Invitational championship last weekend.

Senior Alex Jones was named tournament MVP, while senior Raechele Gray was also named to the all-tournament team.

In Friday’s win over Presbyterian, seniors Jade Barber — 21 points, 11 rebounds — and Alex Jones — 12 points, 10 rebounds — became the first two Lady Colonels to record double-doubles in the same game since March of last year. Jones now ranks fifth on EKU’s all-time double-double list with 26 and is 17th on the EKU all-time scoring list with 1,071 career points.

Through eight games, Barber leads the OVC in field goal percentage at 64.3 percent and blocks, with 2.8 per game. She ranks second in the OVC in rebounds, averaging 10.5 per game.

The Bobcats will be the third Mid-American Conference team EKU has faced this season. The Lady Colonels defeated league favorite Miami (Ohio) and Kent State to open the season.

EKU and Ohio haven’t met since 1987, a game the Bobcats won 82-1. EKU leads the overall series 3-1.

Through eight games, two Lady Colonels are scoring in double digits. Barber leads the team averaging 12.9 points and 10.5 rebounds per game, while Brittany Coles is averaging 10.3 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game.

Raechele Gray is averaging 9.1 points, 2.5 rebounds and 3.4 assists, and after a slow start this year, Jones is now averaging 6.9 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.

The Bobcats are led by their guard trio of Shavon Robinson, 10.2 points and 4.8 rebounds per game, Mariah Byard, 8.2 points and 1.3 rebounds per game and Ashley Fowler, 5.3 points and 3.3 rebounds per game.

The Lady Colonels inside players, Barber and Jones will be challenged tonight by Ohio’s Tina Fisher who is averaging 5.5 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.

The Bobcats are averaging 53.8 points per game while allowing their opponents to score 65.5 points per game.

Ohio shoots 32.2 percent from the field and 29.5 from behind the three point line. EKU is shooting 38 percent from the field and 31.9 percent from behind the arc.

Ohio averages 35.3 rebounds and 17 turnovers per game, while EKU is averaging 42 rebounds per game, while turning the ball over 20.5 times per game.

After playing five of their first eight games at home, the Lady Colonels will play three of their next four on the road.
