Decision day has finally arrived for Dominique Hawkins.
The Madison Central senior point guard will announce his college plans at 8 a.m. today during an event at the school’s gymnasium.
This year’s Kentucky Mr. Basketball reportedly has offers from Purdue, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, Morehead State and Western Kentucky but is expected to verbally commit to the University of Kentucky.
The event is open to the public and special parking will be made available at the school for visitors and members of the media.
The event can also been seen live on ihigh.com and heard live on 106.7 FM.
The announcement will cap an amazing senior season for Hawkins. The senior averaged 20 points a game and led the Indians to an 11th Region title and was named the Most Valuable Player of the Sweet 16 last month after leading the school to its first-ever state basketball championship.
He was named Mr. Basketball earlier this month and was also honored as the Bluegrasspreps.com Player of the Year and the Gatorade Kentucky Boys’ Basketball Player of the Year.
During the four games at the Sweet 16 in Rupp Arena, Hawkins scored 107 points. The senior had 21 points and 10 rebounds in the title game against Ballard.
Earlier this season, Hawkins surpassed Aaron Morris’ program record for points (1,980) and became the first male basketball player in school history to score 2,000 points.
A starter since his freshman season, Hawkins averaged 20.4 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.8 steals a game this season. He also shot 50 percent from the field, 35 percent from three-point range and 75 percent from the free throw line.
