OVC GOLF: EKU takes third at Colonel Classic

RICHMOND — The Eastern Kentucky University women’s golf team placed third int the 14-team 2013 Colonel Classic  Saturday in Richmond.

Freshman Anna Gleixner placed fourth overall.

The event was contested at Arlington Country Club, a par-72, 5,807-yard course.

Toledo (893) captured the team title by 21 shots over second-place Ball State (914). EKU (915) was one shot behind the Cardinals for third and nine shots in front of fourth-place Bowling Green (924). Ohio (926) rounded out the top-5.

Jenna Hague (219) of Ball State captured the individual championship by one shot over Sathika Ruenreong (220) of Toledo. Hague shot rounds of 74, 72 and 73. Ruenreong carded rounds of 74, 72 and 74.

Gleixner shot a final round 78 after opening with scores of 75 and 71. Her 54-hole total of 224 was two shots better than a pair of players tied for fifth.

April Emerson tied for fifth overall with a total of 226. She concluded with a final round 74 on Saturday. Becky Sharpe finished tied for 19th with a total of 232. Kristen Dorsey (233) tied for 24th.

The Colonels will return to action on April 21-23 at the Ohio Valley Conference Championship in Dickson, Tenn.
