H.S. BASEBALL: Central gets past Adair County

RICHMOND — The Indians scored once in each of the final two innings and picked up a win Thursday at the Florida Beach Bash at Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.

Jake Caldwell drove in the winning run in the sixth inning as Madison Central (7-2) defeated Adair County, 4-2.

The Indians are now 3-1 on their week-long spring break trip.

Zach Voll earned the win by pitching 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief, in which he allowed three walks, one hit and struck out two. Austin Templeton earned the save by pitching the final inning and allowing two hits.

Catcher Jimmy Wright was 2-for-3 with a double and a RBI to lead the Central offense. Jake Lakes was also 2-for-3 with a run scored and Ben Fisher and Jonah Kelsey were both 2-for-4.

Central took the lead in the third inning.

Lakes singled and scored on a Wright double. Fisher followed with an RBI single.

In the sixth, Kelsey singled to start a game-winning rally. Seth Richardson came on to run and stole second and moved to third on an error. Jake Caldwell then delivered an RBI single.

In the seventh, Hunter Kabalen walked, Fisher doubled and Ben Morin added an RBI single.

Adair County got a run in the third and another in the fifth off Central starter Kirt Caldwell.

Kirt Caldwell went 4 1/3 innings and gave up one earned run and one walk, while striking out one.

Central is set to wrap the tournament at 9 a.m. today against Owensboro.
