After more than a week off, the Model Laboratory tennis team was back on the court Thursday at Arlington Country Club.
Led by solid performances from both doubles teams, the Patriots defeated Montgomery County, 4-1.
“The doubles really clicked with the new system we implemented,” Model coach Ric Hernandez said. “They are coming along nicely so early in the season.”
With the win, Model improves to 2-0 on the season.
At the No. 1 doubles, Jack Frisbie and James Logue defeated Connor Danis and Michael Vonduesterlho, 6-4, 6-2.
At the No. 2 doubles, Blake Benson and Nolan Kelley defeated Will Razor and Aaron Smith, 6-2, 6-2.
The Patriots took two of the three singles matches.
At No. 1, Gus Benson rolled past Max Baker, 6-1, 6-1. Cole Wilson fell to Sam Hodgson, 6-3, 6-4, and at No. 3 singles, Nate Frisbie beat Preston Crump, 6-1, 7-5.
In exhibition action, Levi Agee defeated Alex Whitaker, 8-1, and Jesse Chang lost to Cole Huff, 6-3.
In exhibition doubles action, Jarett Insko and Tyler Johnson defeated Jiv Johnson and Gabe Roop.
The Patriots will not return to action until Saturday, April 6 when Russell, last year’s state semifinalist, comes to Richmond.
