KIAC BASKETBALL: Lady Mountaineers win, Mountaineers fall

RICHMOND — The Lady Mountaineers picked up a huge road win Saturday, knocking off Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference leader Point Park, 49-48.

The win moves Berea College (10-15, 6-6 KIAC) into a tie for fourth place in the KIAC standings.

Shelby Romine had 13 points to lead Berea, while Meagan Walker added 10 points and five rebounds. The Lady Mountaineers shot just 32 percent from the field and had 24 turnovers, but hit 17-of-25 free throws.

Point Park (19-5, 10-4 KIAC) had won seven-straight games and was up 22-17 at halftime.

Mikola Burks had eight points for Berea, while Erika Parks added seven points.

The Lady Mountaineers are set to return to action today at Carlow University.

Point Park 110, Berea 97

The Mountaineers suffered their second-straight conference loss Saturday, falling at Point Park, 110-97.

Seth Beckham had 31 points and eight rebounds for Berea (15-12, 7-5 KIAC), Tevin Webster had 14 points and 12 rebounds, Rashad Hayden and Dominique Garmon each had 12 points and Aaron Ponder added 11 points.

The loss dropped the Mountaineers to fifth in the KIAC standings.

T.J. Heatherington had 42 points and 10 assists for Point Park (13-9, 7-7 KIAC).

Berea shot just 37 percent, while Point Park shot 49 percent and hit 11 three-pointers.

The game featured 83 free throws, while the Mountaineers connecting on 27-of-40 attempts at the line.

Point Park led 60-52 at halftime.

Berea is set to return to action Tuesday at home against IU-Southeast.
