H.S. HOOPS: Model, Southern pick up road wins, Berea falls

RICHMOND — The Patriots got off to a fast start and rolled to a pretty easy victory Friday on the road.

Model (20-6) took an early 11-4 lead and went on to pick up an 82-65 win over Robert-son County. Senior Jon Ballard had a team-high 22 points, eight rebounds and was eight-of-eight from the free throw line.

Anthony Gerald had 15 points and six assists, A.J. Hammons had 16 points, Zack Rice-Gordon had 13 points, Brendan Hill and Jesse Middleton had six points each and Jared Adams and Cody Jones had two points each.

Model was up 44-21 at halftime and stretched that lead to 30 points after three quarter.

The Patriots are set to return to action Tuesday at Danville.

Madison Southern 78, Western Hills 66

The Eagles sealed a solid road win Friday with good free throw shooting in the final minutes.

Madison Southern hit 15-of-20 free throws in the fourth quarter in a 78-66 win over Western Hills in Frankfort. Senior Tyler Abshear had 33 points, eight rebounds and five assists  and Michael Rothermel added 13 points for Southern (15-9).

The Eagles trailed 23-19 after the first quarter, but out-scored the Wolverines 20-10 in the second quarter.

Damien Harris had 11 points, Jake Napier had 10 points, Drew Taylor added seven points, while Spencer Stone and Marlin Taylor had two points each.

Southern had 16 assists and was 17-of-24 from the free throw line.

The Eagles are set to return to action Tuesday at home against Russell County.

Anderson County 73, Berea 46

The Bearcats used a big second-quarter run to take charge Friday at home against Berea Community.

Anderson County led by just two points after the first quarter but took a 43-20 into halftime and rolled to a 73-46 win in Lawrenceburg.

Trey Terrill had 10 points to lead Berea. Bradley Atkins had eight points, including two three pointers, Daniel Hubbard and Dustin Kates had five points each, Shyiem Alexander had four points, Nolan Sweet had three points, Eli Woodie, Cameron Coyle and Dalton Gadd had two points each, while Sam Shearer and Austin Warford had one point each.

Berea (7-17) is set to return to action at 3 p.m. today at home against Piarist.
