The Lady Colonels (9-6, 3-1 OVC) will be looking for their third straight OVC win today when they take on Jacksonville State (0-18, 0-6 OVC) at 5 p.m.
The game can be heard on WEKY 1340 am or at www.EKUsports.com. It can also be seen at www.OVCDigitalNetwork.com.
EKU is coming off victories over Eastern Illinois and Morehead State last week at home and is looking for its second consecutive road win after a victory over Murray State, that broke a five-game road winless streak.
The last time the two teams played, Raechele Gray had a career-high 18 points to lead the Lady Colonels to an 80-76 overtime win on Dec. 20, 2011.
Senior Jade Barber enters the game ranked third in the country in field goal percentage at 61.5 percent. She is the only player in the OVC who is averaging a double-double —13.9 points and 10.7 rebounds — per game.
She was named the OVC Player of the Week after her 21-point, 19-rebound performance last week against Morehead State.
Barber leads the Lady Colonels in scoring at 13.9 points per contest. She also averages 10.7 rebounds and has 31 blocked shots on the year.
Marie Carpenter is second on the team in scoring, averaging 11 points per game and Brittany Coles is also averaging in double figures with 10.8 points per game, while pulling down five rebounds per game.
Two other senior Lady Colonels are near double figures in scoring. Gray comes into the game averaging 9.5 points, 3.3 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game, while Alex Jones is averaging 8.3 points and pulling down 7.8 rebounds per game.
The game will mark the 100th start for Jones in her EKU career. The Lady Colonel record for games started is 113, held by Laphelia Doss from 1994-98.
Jacksonville State is struggling this season and is winless on the year. The Lady Gamecocks are led by Briana Morrow, who is averaging 9.8 points per game and Miranda Cantrell, who is averaging 7.3 points per game.
Jacksonville State ranks at-or-near the bottom of most statistical categories in the conference, but they are fifth in field goal percentage at 38.6 percent.
The Lady Gamecocks are averaging 40.1 rebounds per game compared to EKU’s 41.6 rebounds per game.
They are averaging 21.2 turnovers per contest, compared to the Lady Colonel’s who are turning the ball over an average of 19.7 times per game.
