H.S. BASKETBALL: Lady Patriots win, Lady Patriots, Patriots and Pirates fall

RICHMOND — The Lady Pirates fell behind early and were never able to fully recover.

Augusta built a double-digit first half lead and went to pick up a 54-47 victory in the championship game of the Bluegrass Conference Classic at Nicholas County.

Jordan Sandefur had 23 points and Chase Fain added 11 points for Berea Community (10-10).

Augusta led 27-18 at halftime was up 40-33 after three quarters.

Alex Horn had seven points, while Miranda Montgomery, Victoria Sexton and Conner Coyle each had two points.

Sandefur and Fain were named to the all-tournament team.

Berea is set to return to action Tuesday at home against Nicholas County.



Lady Patriots roll                 past St. Patrick

The Lady Patriots jumped out to a big early lead and rolled past St. Patrick, 60-14, Saturday at the Bluegrass Conference Classic in Nicholas County.

Darrian Botts had 29 points, five rebounds and three steals and Hayley Hunt added 18 points, 11 rebounds and four assists. Abby Vicars hit a pair of three pointers and had finished with 10 points. Chloe Dyer had two points and Kylie Hamm added a point.

Model was 17-of-25 from the free throw line and had 16 steals. The Lady Patriots also out-rebounded St. Patrick 35-22.

The Lady Patriots are set to return to action Friday at home against district rival Madison Southern.



Pirates drop a pair of games

The Berea Community (5-16) boys team suffered two setbacks on the road Saturday.

The Pirates (7-12) fell to St. Patrick, 57-53, then were defeated by Nicholas County, 68-45, at the Bluegrass Conference Classic.

Against Nicholas County, Berea trailed 16-9 after the first quarter and was down just 33-26 at halftime. The Pirates were still within striking distance before Nicholas County out-scored them 22-10 in the fourth quarter.

Jarel Tevis led Berea with 12 points and six rebounds. Dustin Kates finished with eight points and nine rebounds. Shyiem Alexander and Trey Terrill had eight points each, Bradley Atkins had five points, while Derrick Castle and Dalton Gadd had two points.

Against St. Patrick, the Pirates tried to put together a late comeback, but that rally came up short.

Berea trailed 14-8 after the first quarter, 26-15 at halftime and 41-23 after the third quarter.

The Pirates out-scored St. Patrick 30-16 in the fourth quarter.

Tevis had 11 points and seven rebounds, Caleb Goss and Kates had nine points each, Alexander had eight points, Atkins had seven points, Austin Warford had six points and Terrill had three points.

Berea is set to return to action Monday at home against Nicholas County.



Model falls in title game

The Patriots lost in the championship game of the Bluegrass Conference Classic, 64-56 to Augusta, Saturday at Nicholas County.

The Patriots are set to return to action Wednesday at Bryan Station.
