H.S. SOCCER: Marion County rallies late to beat Model

RICHMOND — The Lady Patriots twice had one-goal leads Monday against Marion County in Richmond.

But, each time they let them slip away.

The Lady Knights scored twice in the second half and handed Model Laboratory a 3-2 loss.

Ruby Smith had both of the Lady Patriots’ goals.

The loss was the third-straight for Model (2-4-1).

“Those two breakdowns (defensively) were really all we had,” Model Michael Bailey said. “This team is doing a much better job of creating scoring opportunities.”

The Lady Patriots hadn’t scored in two games, but Smith scored late in the first half before Marion County pulled even just before halftime.

Skylar Barger set up Smith’s second goal. The sophomore took a free kick from about 30 yards out and found Smith at the side of the net, where she tapped the ball into the net.

Marion County scored on a penalty kick and breakaway goal to rally for the road victory.

Model is set to return to action Saturday at home against Middlesboro.

Southern 7, Estill County 1

The Madison Southern boys soccer team jumped out to a 3-0 halftime lead and rolled to a 7-1 win Monday at Estill County.

Tanner Kidwell scored twice for the Eagles (5-2).

Maguire Jennings, Nick Wallace, Daylin Taylor, Tyler Conley and Christian Echeverria also had goals.

Southern is set to return to action today at home against Lincoln County.
