H.S. SOCCER, VOLLEYBALL: Eagles down Danville 5-0

RICHMOND — Lady Eagles 1 Henry Clay 3

The Madison Southern Lady Eagles soccer team fell to Henry Clay 3-1 Saturday in the Fayette County Spectacular.

The Lady Eagles trailed the powerful Lady Blue Devils early, but Junior Rachel Ramey got Southern even at 1-1 with a goal before halftime.

Henry Clay reclaimed the lead at 2-1 with a goal midway through the second half, then tacked on another goal in the final minutes to make it 3-1.

The Lady Eagles went 0-3 in the tournament, but Coach Katy Cress said she was pleased with how her team responded in the final couple of games.

“I’m a lot happier with our play than I was in the first game. We showed a lot of improvement today, which is encouraging,” Cress said. “Henry Clay is a really tough team and we hung in there with them all day.”

The Lady Eagles will be back in action on Monday when they travel to Nicholasville to take on East Jessaming at 6 p.m.
