H.S. SOCCER: Patriots blow past Danville, 8-1

RICHMOND — The Model Laboratory Patriots opened the season with an impressive 8-1 win over Danville Tuesday in Richmond.

Andrew Wylie got his senior season off to a blazing start, scoring four goals and dishing out two assists in the game.

Junior striker Noah Valencia also had a big game with three goals, while sophomore Rishav Aikat added a goal and two assists.

The Patriots controlled the game from the start and wasted no time getting on the scoreboard when Valencia found the net on an assist by Wiley six minutes into the game.

Danville tied the game with a goal of its own at the 29 minute mark of the half, but from that point the Patriots began their offensive onslaught while their defense held the Admirals in check.

Wylie put Model on top 3-1 with two goals in a two-minute span, the second coming on a putback of a ball off the goalpost on his own penalty kick.

Valencia followed that with a putback of his own missed shot for his second goal with 11 minutes remaining in the first half to give the Patriots a 4-1 cushion at the half.

The second half was all Patriots as the offensive onslaught continued.

Aikat made it 5-1 with a goal off an assist by Wylie and Valencia picked up his third goal on an assist by Andrew Yoder a few minutes later and Model led 6-1.

Wylie rounded out the scoring with back-to-back goals to set the final margin.

Model got a strong game in goal from senior Levi Agee, who only allowed the one goal and made several great stops, especially early in the contest, that helped set up the Patriots offense.

In the JV game, Model continued its domination of the Ads, coming away with an 8-0 win.

The Patriots are back in action on Thursday when they take on Lincoln County at 5:30 p.m. in Richmond.
