SWIMMING: Swimmers shine in Lexington

RICHMOND — Local swimmers posted some impressive performances last weekend at the Kentucky State SCY 12-and-under State Championships in Lexington.

Youth swimmers from both Colonel Aquatics and the Bluegrass Swim Team, which is based out of Winchester, participated in the prestigious event.

Trent Lakes of the Bluegrass Swim Team won two individual state titles and finished with the second most overall points in his age group (boys 11-12). He took first place in the 50-yard breaststroke, posting a time of 30.84, which was nearly a second faster than the nearest competitior.

Lakes also took first place in the 100-yard breaststroke in his age group. He posted a time of 1:06.80, which was almost seven seconds faster than his preliminary time.

Lakes was also second in the 100-yard butterfly, third in the 200 IM, the 50-yard butterfly, the 100 freestyle and the 50-yard freestyle and fourth in the 500-yard free.

 Lakes was also part of two relay teams, the 200 yard free, which finished fourth and the 200 medley, which finished fifth.

Tilly Baldwin (Bluegrass) had several solid showings in her age group (girls 11-12). She finished third in both the 500-yard free and the 50-yard breaststroke. She was fifth in the 100-yard breastroke, seventh in the 200-yard free, eighth in the 200-yard IM, 13th in the 100-yard backstroke, 20th in the 200-yard freestyle and 40th in the 50-yard back.

She was also part of two relay teams that scored points — the 200-yard medley (seventh) and the 200-yard free (12th).

Lance Fuller (Bluegrass) had five Top-20 performances in individual events Saturday at the event.

He finished 10th in the 50-yard breaststroke and 12th in the 100-yard breaststroke. He also 17th in the 500-yard free, 18th in the 200-yard IM and was 19th in the 200-yard free. He was also 22nd in the 100-yard fly and 100-yard backstroke and was 43rd in the 100-yard freestyle.

Fuller was also part of two solid relay teams — 200-yard medley (fifth) and 200-yard free (12th).

Also for the Bluegrass Marlins, in the boys 10 and under division, Zane Zhang placed 7th in the 100 fly, 15th in the 50 breast and 16th in both the 100 IM and the 50 back, 15th in the 50 free and 14th in both the 100 breast and the 100 back.

Isabella Cooksey finished 38th in the girls 10 - and - under 100 breast, 51st in the 200 IM and 61st in the 100 free.

Mason Neal finished 37th in the 100 breast and the 50 breast, 43rd in 200 free, 43rd in the 200 free, 50th in the 100 fly, 56st in the 200IM and 71st in the 100 free.

The Colonel Aquatic 200-yard freestyle relay team of Olivia Young, Victoria Taylor, Cecilia Cobb and Laurel Yates finished eighth in the girls 10-and-under division.

Yates had three individual top 10 finishes for Colonel Aquatics in her age group (10-and-under). Yates took sixth in the 100-yard breast and was seventh in both the 50-yard breast and the 50-yard free. She was also 19th in the 200-yard IM, 20th in the 200-yard free, 100-yard fly and the 100-yard free.

Young finished seventh in her age group (10-and-under) in both the 100-yard fly and the 50-yard fly. She was also 10th in both the 200-yard IM and the 100-yard breaststroke, 14th in the 200-yard free 16th in the 100-yard free and 17th in the 100-yard breast.

COLA’s Patrick Jackson was 10th in the 100-yard back in his age group (11-12 year-old). He also finished 14th in the 50-yard fly, 18th in the 50-yard free and 20th in both the 50-yard back and 200-yard free.

Taylor’s best finish was 26th in the 100-yard breast.

COLA’s Lillie Deprez’s best finish was 20th in the 50-yard back.

Cobb’s best finish was 33rd in the 50-yard breast.
