H.S. BASKETBALL: Madison Southern falls at Woodford County, 75-65, Central falls to Dunbar

RICHMOND — The Eagles couldn’t bounce back from a rough first half Tuesday on the road at Woodford County.

The Yellow Jackets hit nine first-half three-pointers and took a 23-point lead into halftime. Madison Southern tried to battle back, but suffered a 75-65 loss.

Trevor Huff led the Eagles (5-8) with 19 points and 11 rebounds, while Stacy Burns added 14 points.

Antonio Thrash had 10 points, while Tanner Kidwell and Branden Sargent had six points each, Devante Linville and Caleb Miller had five points apiece and Michael Jefferson added three points.

Southern trailed 23-13 after the first quarter and was down 47-24 at halftime.

The Eagles got back within 11 points at the start of the fourth quarter and were down just six points with 2:44 left in the game.

Southern was just seven-of-18 from the free throw line, while Woodford was 12-of-17 from the line.

The Eagles are set to return to action Friday at Clark County.



Dunbar 59, Central 53

The Madison Central boys basketball team suffered a 59-53 loss Tuesday in Lexington to Paul Laurence Dunbar.

Dunbar jumped out to a 20-12 lead after the first quarter. The Indians fought back in the second quarter, outscoring the Bulldogs 16-9 to pull to within one at 29-28 at the half.

Dunbar stretched its lead to 42-35 after three quarters.

Kirk Humphrey led the way for the Indians with 15 points, while Sam Jones was the only other Central player in double figures with 14.

Cameron Thomas finished with eight points, Demarcus George had seven points, Coty Alexander added six points, Ross Ramsey had two point and Isaiah Johnson had one point.

With the loss, the Indians fall to 12-4 on the season.

Central is set to return to action Saturday at East Ridge.
